Through observation of various exercises and feedback following incidents, it was identified at OREEF that Crew Transfer Vessels (CTV) operating with less than three crew may struggle to efficiently operate the vessel, rescue equipment and effectively communicate during an emergency. As a result of thorough discussion at OREEF over several months, the group has issued a new guidance document for industry to consider. The guidance, which identifies several issues, provides three recommendations aimed at ensuring sites and their CTV operators are best placed to respond to foreseeable emergencies.
HM Coastguard’s Offshore Energy Lead, Pete Lowson, who brought the concern to OREEF and led the development of the guidance said “The collaboration of OREEF members in developing and releasing this guidance shows the importance of the topic and the benefits of having the group focussed on improving emergency response preparedness and sharing lessons learned efficiently throughout the industry”.
It is hoped that this guidance and other documents like it, will be widely received and promote the important work of OREEF.
